The Battle for Reconciliation
The Battle for Reconciliation. A poem and reflection.
“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”
— Ephesians 6:12 (NIV)
A poem:
I hold up a shield to deflect your daggers,
Yet you only see a swinging sword.
I hold up a mirror to reflect your truth,
Before more pain is spent than one can afford. When will this veil be torn between us?
When will the scales fall from your eyes?
When will I find relief from your rage,
And when will the light expose your lies?I wait impatiently for the Lord to rescue me,
Until He gently reminds me:
I am saved, yet you are still lost.So although your defenses deceive you,
And your walls isolate you,
With the Lord’s leading, we will not stop fighting for you—whatever the cost.We fight for reconciliation and for peace,
We fight for truth and for love,
Most of all, we fight for you to come home,
To dwell in paradise above. All of heaven is waiting to celebrate your return,
And on that day, you will remember:
We were always with you; You were never alone. On that day we will dance beneath the sunset!
We will paint the sky until the stars shine.
No more daggers, no more swords—
Only His unrelenting love and light. The veil is torn, the scales removed.
When we catch each other’s gaze,
We know that for eternity,
We are home.

Reflection
Ephesians 6:12 reminds us that the real battle isn’t against one another—not against family, friends, or even those who wound us. The struggle is against spiritual forces that divide, deceive, and destroy.
When we fight for reconciliation, we’re not trying to defeat each other—we’re fighting with Christ against lies, walls, and darkness. That’s why we take up the shield of faith and the sword of the Spirit—not to wound, but to protect, to reveal truth, and to keep hope alive.
Every small act of forgiveness, patience, or love is a victory in this greater battle. And one day, when reconciliation is complete, there will be no more weapons raised—only His love, light, and everlasting peace.
